History of the Analytica trade fair
The founding of the Analytica trade fair in 1968 marked the beginning of an era in which Munich became the hub for experts in the laboratory world. Originally launched as the “International Trade Exhibition for Biochemical Analyses”, the trade fair showed the potential to become a leading force in the industry even in its early years. With only 90 exhibitors and 4,000 visitors from 17 countries, the first trade fair laid the foundation for what is now recognised as the world’s largest trade fair for analytics and laboratory technology.
Over the years, the Analytica trade fair has undergone an impressive development:
- In 1972, the fair experienced a significant increase in visitor numbers to over 9,400, which underlined the growing importance of the fair.
- By 1976, Analytica had firmly established itself as the leading international trade fair, with an increase in visitors to 13,308 from 21 countries.
- The introduction of the first special show in 1992 and the move to the new exhibition centre in Munich-Riem in 1998 were further milestones that shaped the trade fair.
- Analytica’s expansion through the establishment of Analytica China in 2002 and Analytica Anacon India in 2003, followed by Analytica Vietnam in 2009, demonstrated its global reach and importance.
- In 2016, the show reached a new high with 1,244 exhibitors and a record 37% of foreign exhibitors.
